Project PROTECH’s Community Partners’ Showcase series continues, and our 6th episode will be released on our YouTube channel on Tuesday, December 15th, at 6 pm EST.
For this upcoming Community Partners’ Showcase, we’ve invited Moy Wong-Tam & Alfred Lam from Centre for Immigrant and Community Services (CICS) to speak with us about their experiences working for the community during this pandemic.
CICS provides all the essential services that newcomers need, all under one roof. (CICS) is a not-for-profit organization that provides a wide range of settlement programs and services to newcomers of all age groups and diverse ethno-cultural backgrounds in Toronto and York Region. CICS’ mission is to empower newcomers in settling and integrating as contributing members of Canadian society through diverse, professional and innovative services, which include: settlement services, English language training, early year services, children and youth services, employment support, family and senior services, and volunteer opportunities.
About the speakers:
Alfred Lam 林承昌(CICS)
Alfred Lam works for the Centre for Immigrant and Community Services as the Manager of the Markham South Welcome Centre, part of a system of 5 centres in York Region that provides all the essential services that newcomers need, all under one roof. Alfred specializes in innovative program design and collaborative leadership development. He is also a writer and an experienced motivational speaker with a passion for mental wellness advocacy. He is an ironman triathlete, and lives in Toronto with his wife Anna and two daughters, Taylor and MJ.
Moy Wong-Tam 譚黃梅初 (CICS)
Moy Wong-Tam is the Executive Director of CICS. She has been an advisor of the Human Services Planning Board of York Region, and a board member and later Vice President of the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants.
Her previous roles include Founding CEO of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation, and Commissioner of Ontario’s Commission on Systemic Racism in the Criminal Justice System.
