Dear PROTECH members and community Partners,
I am happy to let you know the recent hiring of the three positions has been completed. On behalf of PROTECH, I would like to extend our warmest welcome to Cindy, Shaylee (Yuan) and Rain to these new positions.
Cindy Lu呂文琪, joined PROTECH as the Content Management Coordinator on July 13. Coming from an academic background in Media and Communications with a focus in Journalism and Public Relations, Cindy has more than 11 years of experience in news reporting, campaign management, and community outreach. As a former journalist with Sing Tao Daily, she is recognized for her bilingual writing and critical thinking skills, as well as her continuing contributions to voice up for the ethnic community and portray the marginalized groups. Currently, Cindy is volunteering for the Chinese Workers’ Network under the Toronto and York Region Labour Council as a content advisor to facilitate connections between unions and the Chinese-Canadian community. With her extensive communication management skills and her passion for social service initiatives and intercultural research, Cindy will continue to thrive on anti-racism and anti-stigma issues, promote mental health awareness and create positive ripples in the community.
Shaylee (Yuan) Zhang張湲, joined PROTECH as the Web Design & Maintenance Coordinator of PROTECH on July 14. Graduated with a computer science degree, Shaylee has been in the web development field for over 15 years. In the past five years, Shaylee worked in a health care company as a web specialist in charge of site design, maintenance, and traffic monitoring. As technology keeps evolving, Shaylee always stays on top of the latest tech trends. She has a great appetite for learning new things and always being inspired by how advanced technology can change people’s lives. Shaylee also joined a few non-profit organizations and worked as volunteers to help people in need and address various social issues. Her extensive IT skills and community service experience will keep the project moving forward with creative and sound technology solutions.
Rain Chan陳子玲, will be joining PROTECH as the Community Engagement Program Associate on July 27. Rain is a community activist, facilitator, writer, and performer. Currently, Rain is studying Traditional Chinese Medicine, engaging in social justice activism and community building. Rain is one of the co-founders of The Where Are You From Collective (WAYF). WAYF is an art-based and activism program for people who identify within the Pan-Asian spectrum. WAYF works from an intersectional, anti-oppression framework to empower Asians to develop critical art practices and build activist spaces that challenge the dominant culture. WAYF aims to celebrate Asian identities and achievements, build capacity for Asian-identified youth, and connect diasporic Asian communities. Rain has served as the Executive Director of the Chinese Canadian National Council Toronto Chapter (CCNCTO), an organization of Chinese Canadians in the City of Toronto that promotes equity, social justice, inclusive civic participation, and respect for diversity. These days, Rain continues to enjoy writing poetry, science fiction and studying astrology.
