On October 19, 2020 Jesse Kline of National Post published a short one-minute article and a video on “A COVID-19 Halloween guide for a safe and fun night”. The one-minute read included a “sexualized” image of a woman in a nursing/ medicare uniform, with the SARS-COV-2 viruses as the backdrop.
Despite many requests from nurses and the Registered Nurses Association of Ontario urging Jesse Kline to remove this offensive image, his unapologetic response was – “Y’all really don’t get the concept of a Halloween costume, do you?”
It is unimaginable and very ironic that when nurses and healthcare providers are putting their health and wellbeing at risk, working tirelessly to care for people infected with and/or affected by COVID-19, Jesse Kline could so arrogantly flaunt his unearned male privilege, perpetuate misogyny, and treat nurses and women with such disrespect.
Please sign this petition here and join us in demanding a formal apology from Jesse Kline and the National Post. It is never okay to objectify and sexualize women. Jesse Kline must not abuse his power and privilege as a journalist!
