The world around us sparkles with every colour and sings songs in every register, and yet we often only hear the loudest voices. Special Event: Listening to the Rainbow gives the microphone to those voices are often marginalised or silenced by mainstream, hetero-normative narratives. Join us and a panel of experts as we discuss the importance of building communities, offering representation and creating stages for authentic voices from all walks of life.

SPEAKERS’ BIOGRAPHIES
Dr. J. Daniel Luther
(Co-founder of ‘Queer’ Asia)J. Daniel Luther is a Teaching Fellow in Gender, Film and Media at the Department of Gender Studies at LSE. Their current research focuses on queer film festivals in South Asia and the inequalities of LGBTQ film making in India and Indian diasporas in the UK. They are also one of the co-founders of the international platform and network called ‘Queer’ Asia. Their doctoral research examines South Asian public culture for the production and reiteration of gender and sexual norms.

June Chua
(Co-Founder of The T Project)June Chua founded The T Project together with her late sister Alicia in 2014, to meet the needs of the transgender community in Singapore. The T Project supports the Singapore’s transgender community by providing a holistic social service, including a temporary shelter for the homeless. June’s work has garnered recognition and awards from many institutes including; AWARE, The Working Community 3 and the U.S. Department of State who invited her to participate in their International Visitor Leadership Program in 2018.

Prashant Somosundram
(General Manager of The Projector, member of the organizing team of Pink Dot, and member of The Glory Hoes)Prashant Somosundram is the General Manager of The Projector, an independent cinema at Golden Mile Tower. He is also a member of the organising team of Pink Dot, a movement to support the freedom to love for the queer community in Singapore and a member of The Glory Hoes, a queer collective who present a series of queer film experiences and afterparties.

Sarah-Tabea Sammel
(Founder of Alien & Turtle with the in-house initiative kino kino, filmmaker, film scholar and media artist)Sarah-Tabea Sammel is a filmmaker, film scholar and media artist. She founded a Singapore-based video production house turned social enterprise, teaches at the National University of Singapore and pursues projects with practice as research across video, photography and writing. She is interested in storytelling, philosophy and human-nature relationships with a focus on conservation and community capacity-building.

Zihan Loo
(Artist and Academic)Zihan is an artist and academic working at the intersection of critical theory, performance, and the moving-image. He works with archival materials to rewrite dominant narratives and emphasises the malleability of memory. He received his MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and he is pursuing his PhD at the University of California, Berkeley.
