STAFF LAWYER
CHINESE AND SOUTHEAST ASIAN LEGAL CLINIC
ONE-YEAR CONTRACT WITH POTENTIAL FOR PERMANENT POSITION

Funded by Legal Aid Ontario (LAO), theChinese and Southeast Asian Legal Clinic (CSALC)is a dynamic community legal clinic which serves low-income members of Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and Laotian communities in Ontario.
CSALC is hiring a Staff Lawyer on a one-year contract, which may develop into a permanent position in 2022. The Staff Lawyer will conduct casework, social justice advocacy and public legal education. The casework will include intake with clients, summary advice, and representation before government departments, tribunals and courts, including test case litigation.
Essential qualifications include being a lawyer member in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, and competence in spoken Mandarin or Cantonese (additional competence in Vietnamese is an asset). Ideally, you would also have familiarity with one or more of CSALC’s areas of practice (including immigration, social assistance and income maintenance, tenant rights, employment, human rights, and test case litigation), and have experience working with disadvantaged communities or in social justice.

Salary will be in the range of $75,000 to $80,000, plus a group benefits package and employer RRSP contributions.
